17th CMCL Open: Smokin Hills Golf Resorts get May18 Date


The 17th in the series of the CMCL Open Golf Championship; a tournament put in place to mark the birthday celebration of Chairman of CMCL Golf Tours Limited; Otunba Olusola Adekanola has been scheduled to tee off at the Smokin Hills Golf Resort, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State from May 18 to 24th as confirmed by the Chief Executive Officer of CMCL Golf Tours Limited, Frank Igbene.

He informed that the decision to move the competition which is already generating lots of excitements across the country to Smokin Hills was to give golfers the feeling of playing on a world class course was, explaining further that CMCL Open Golf championship, which is the oldest national professional and amateur is the first championship golfing event to take place at Smokin Hills.

Smokin  Hills Golf Resorts is without doubt a World Class Golf Course and owned by Chief Michael Ade Ojo who is the Chairman Toyota Nigeria Ltd and Founder of Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin.

It is also on record that the annual CMCL Open golf Championship had been played in other golf courses around country; including Benin golf course, Ilorin golf course, Shagamu Golf Course and severally at IBB international Golf and Country club, Abuja.

Meanwhile, the 17th edition will see the touring professional golfers taking to the course from Tuesday, 19 till Friday 22nd. They will be playing for price money while the invited amateurs will have their days on the course from mid day, May 22, which is practice round and two-day amateur championship on May 23 and 24.

Expected to feature at the event are golfers drawn from across the country. Golfers from  Benin, Ikoyi, Ikeja, Lakowe, Kano, Ilorin, Port Harcourt, Abeokuta, Ibadan, Ada, Asaba, Kaduna, Warri and Abuja have signified their intention to be part of the weeklong competition.

Golfers like the former governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, former Captain of Ikoyi club, Ayinde Sanni, past Captain IBB Dare Bello, Okey Igwe, Winston Strassa, Bayo Alli, Sumanth, Seyi Siwoku ( Jungle ),  Dafe Sejobor, Ahmed Suleman, Dipo Sanya, Sam Anyamele and Kingsley Okunbor are some few notables expected to be part of the 2015 CMCL Open.
