No fewer than 21 travelling persons were on Monday evening burnt beyond recognition in a ghastly motor accident that occurred around Edo-Delta boundary along Benin-Asaba Onitsha expressway.
Eyewitness said the accident involved an 18-seater bus conveying the travellers and a trailer loaded with goods after the trailer driver lost control of his vehicle and veered into the lane of the bus driver heading towards Onitsha.
It was gathered that three occupants of the trailer, except the driver, who sustained severe injuries died while the 18 passengers in the bus with registration AA 216 BEN got burnt to death on the spot when it caught fire.
FRSC officials who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity said the trailer driver lost control while descending the last hill before Agbor and crashed into the incoming bus heading towards Onitsha.
While cautioning motorists and other road users to be careful always, the FRSC officials warned that the agency would deal with lawless road users. They also said the driver of the trailer had been taken to a nearby hospital in Agbor.
When contacted, Delta Police PRO, Celestina Kalu, a DSP, said the accident was first of its kid since the beginning of years 2015.
