A chieftain of All Progressives Congress in Abia State, Chibuike Ukauwa has endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari for second term in office come 2019 but however called on the APC-led Federal Government to map out measures to end the ethnic clashes which he opined may mar the political fortune of the party come 2019 elections. Ukauwa who spoke to select journalists in his Umuahia residence, noted that Buhari had performed well within two and half years since assumption of office, but called on him not to allow his good works be jeopardised by the herdsmen and farmers clashes but rather a lasting solution to the problem.
He noted that if the herdsmen/ farmers clashes were not resolved, it might throw the nation into unavoidable crisis which might spell doom to the country.
His words: “You can see the achievements of President Buhari ranging from anti corruption war, economy, security, infrastructure and education. Nigeria has made remarkable progress under Buhari’s government”.
“But my worry is the gruesome murder of people by suspected Fulani herdsmen. Last year, there were herdsmen/farmers clashes in Ozuitem in Abia State and also in Nimbo Engus State where hundreds of souls were murdered. Now is Benue State where about 73 persons were killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen. I think the development is not healthy to the APC-led government considering the second term bid of President Buhari. Mr. President must map out ways to curtail and end the herdsmen/farmers clashes,” Ukauwa said.
On whether Nigerian president of Igbo extraction could be actualised under APC after Buhari’s second term bid, Ukauwa explained that the only alternative for Ndigbo was to support APC government to enable Igbo man become president come 2023.
He said that it would be disadvantageous y to Ndigbo if they do not support Buhari for second term in office, reiterating that Igbo agenda is achievable under APC.
“It will be a disadvantage to us for the Igbos not to support Buhari for second term because after Mr. President must have completed his second term, Igbo man will emerge as Nigeria president in 2023. APC is the only alternative and solution to marginalization of South- East zone. So, all Igbo sons and daughters should give President Buhari maximum support to enable him bring the needed good governance in the country”.
On the current state of Abia, the APC chieftain decried the developmental backwardness of the state, calling on Abians to support APC to bring democracy dividends to the doorsteps of all Abians.
“I’m worried over the current state of our dear state, Abia. There is lot of infrastructural decay which needs urgent attention. There is youth unemployment. No functional industries that could engage the youths. All the whole system in Abia has collapsed. So, I’m urging Abians to support APC because that is the only alternative the desired change can be enthroned in the state,” he said.
