A coalition of youth groups in Abia State under the aegis of Abia Youth Coalition Movement (AYCM) has galvanized grassroots support for the senatorial bid of former Abia State Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Abia North, Dr. Orji Kalu.
Coordinator of the coalition, Mazi Tony Anyim, said the people of Abia North are tired of poor representation and believe Kalu has the political capacity, and network of contacts to represent them well.
He condemned the distribution of frying pans and buckets to constituents, saying politicians should stop taking the people for granted.
A statement issued in Lagos Sunday quoted Anyim as speaking during a town hall meeting in Arochukwu on Sunday.
Anyim stressed that only Kalu can bring back the lost glory of the region.
He urged politicians to live up to expectations, adding that the era of rigging, intimidation and vote-buying was over in the state.
Anyim said, “The people of Abia North are now wise. We have resolved not to again condone any individual who does not have what it takes to represent us in the red chamber.
“Only Kalu has shown the political sagacity, intellectual capacity and undoubted network of contacts to give us good representation.
“The National Assembly is not a bedroom for sleeping rather a place to advance the cause of the people.
“It is only those who have the people’s interests at heart that should be in the red chamber.
“We have no option than to support Kalu, who we sincerely believe will do a great job, if elected.
“Time will tell as we reaffirm our unshakable and unapologetic support for the former governor”.
