The federal government has endorsed the construction of a 260 kilometre high by the Cross Rivers state government.

The highway which will cut across at least 16 local government areas is perceived as one of the major projects of the state governor Ben Ayade.

Although environmental activists have kicked against the project with the argument that it would destroy several species of plant and displace indigenous residents in the area, the acting president who visited Calabar said the high way represents creativity and big vision.

“It takes courage, it takes vision, it takes farsightedness to say I am going to build a road that passes through 16 or so of the 18 local government areas. That’s a big vision.”

The acting president also promised that the presidency will provide the level of support needed for the completion of the project.

He also commended the achievement of the Ayade administration in the state for their cleanliness and conduct in Calabar.
