Akoko-Edo failed bank robbery

Prince Sumaila Rabiu, Adjoto, Igarra, Edo State, +23480633618: The 2006 population census figure put Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State at 262,110. Created in 1954 as division in the defunct Mid-western Region, it has remained one the oldest and largest councils in Nigeria.

Even though it has the status of a federal constituency, it is still marginalised. The August 9, 2018 incident in which gunmen stormed Igarra, headquaters of the council, will ever remain evergreen in our memory as lives were lost in the process.

However, we thank Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State for his prompt action and the state police commissioner, Mr Johnson Kokumo, and his men for their gallantry. We hope necessary steps will be taken to prevent a recurence as we appeal to the management and staff of the affected bank to re-open without delay.
