In his speech, the Chairman, COTR, HRM Ovong E. O. Isemin commended Okpo for his courage and determination to aspire for the governorship position of Akwa Ibom State.
Ovong Isemin, who is also the Paramount Ruler, Mbo Local Government Area, urged Okpo to remain undaunted and resolute in his ambition, describing him as a true son of the State.
Also speaking, the Acting Secretary of COTR, His Highness,Offong E.O.Oquong said 2015 governorship agitation of Oro was a revolution, hinting that it was a great injustice for Oro not to have produced a Governor for Akwa Ibom State since its creation.
Earlier in his remarks, Barr Asuquo Okpo said he was at the Civic Centre, to inform his fathers about his aspiration and to get their royal blessings to embolden him in the task ahead.
Okpo,accompanied by his wife Helen, said what transpired in 2015 when he aspired for the governorship position would not deter him, hence the reason he offered himself again to be the next governor of Akwa Ibom State in 2019.
The Governorship hopeful appealed to the royal fathers to lead a delegation to dialogue with royal fathers from Ibibio and Annang ethnic groups on the need for Oro man to be the next governor of Akwa Ibom State.
Also speaking, an Elder statesman of the All Progressives Congress in the State, Elder Enefiok Ekefre stressed the need for the people of the State, especially those from Ibibio and Annang to speak the truth by supporting an Oro man to be the next governor of the State, adding that injustice had no ethnic nationality.
Ekefre said Barr Okpo has all it takes to be the Governor of Akwa Ibom State and called on Oro people to support him.
Highlight of the event was prayers by the royal fathers on Barr Asuquo Okpo.
Present at the event include the Paramount Ruler of Oron Local Government Area, HRM Offong Odiong Akan, that of Urue Offong/Oruko, Offong E. R. Amasi, Udung Uko, Offong Bassey Etim Edet and the President-General, Oron Union, Dr Effiong Edunam.
Also present were former ambassador to Greece, Amb. Etim Uye, Ikpoto Oro, Clan Head, Okpo Clan in Urue Offong/Oruko Local Government Area, His Highness, Offong E. M. Unanaowo, among others clan heads and title holders of Oro Nation.
