The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, has said that the state has available manpower, natural resources as well as peace and security that investors can take advantage of, stressing that the state is conducive for huge investment.

Speaking on Thursday while exchanging views with the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, who was on a courtesy visit at Government House in Uyo, the state capital, the governor stated that he observed that a strong economy propels sustainable growth and enhances political development.

He noted that the state was strategically located in the Gulf of Guinea, with a draft of 17.3 meters suitable for a deep seaport which, according to him, is at the fourth stage of its execution, saying its successful completion will ease the congestion of the Lagos ports.

The governor appreciated the Emir for the visit and his vision for the growth of the country’s economy, while lauding his advocacy for a national conversation that would aid in chatting a way forward for the country.

The monarch, in his response, said he was in the state to foster goodwill between the people of Kano and Akwa Ibom states as well as explore modalities for the smooth implementation of Qua Iboe Power Plant Limited project, which he said would cost over $1bn.

While thanking the governor for making the state a haven for investors with the landmark infrastructure and an enduring legacy of peace in the state, the monarch said the power plant, when completed, is expected to add 540 megawatts of electricity to the national grid.

This, he said, would boost the economy of the state and the country.

Meanwhile, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Charles Udoh, has said that the state has the fastest growing economy in the country.

He stated that within the three years of the incumbent administration, the state had recorded remarkable prosperity more than any other state in the country.

In a statement on Thursday, the commissioner spoke when he appeared as a guest on an interactive programme on NTA Uyo, where he was quoted as saying that within the period, over 10 functional industries had come on stream to catalyse the economy of the state, open up employment opportunities for the youth and boost the industrialisation drive of the government.
