The present administration in Akwa Ibom state led by Governor Udom Emmanuel has made great strides in almost all the sectors in line with his administrative thrust to make Akwa Ibom State a choice destination for investors.
Armed with his five-point agenda, the present government has put machineries in place to make the state habitable and safer for both the residents and investors hence, security of lives and properties is one of the cardinal thrusts of this administration.
However, since security agency is a governmental organization which conducts intelligence activities for the internal security of a state, there is need therefore, for the government to provide conducive environment for optimal delivery of the services of these agencies hence, the decision to construct world class police station at a strategic position in the state.
Inspecting the site for the construction of a new police base in Akwa Ibom state at the Uyo Village Road, the Honourable Commissioner for Housing and Special Duties, Mr. Akan Okon, highlighted on the importance and significant of security in a democratic society like Akwa Ibom. He made emphasis on its role, as industrialization takes its roots in the state.
The Special Duties’ Commissioner, who was accompanied by the state Commissioner for Lands lauded his boss, Governor Udom Emmanuel for his foresight. He assured the people of the state Governor’s good intentions for the good people of Akwa Ibom, saying that Governor Udom Emmanuel cannot play politics with project.
Commissioner Akan Okon explained to the people why the state government has decided to relocate the police station from Wellington Bassey Way to the strategic location. According to him, the construction of this state-of-the-art police station is commencing immediately.
He congratulated Akwa Ibom people for voting Governor Udom Emmanuel for quality leadership and direction. “In Akwa Ibom State we are blessed to have a man like Governor Udom Emmanuel to be at the helms of affairs”, Akan Okon enthused the people.
He urged the people of the state to support Governor Udom Emmanuel, adding that the Governor meant well for the state and its people. He said that through continouos support for the present administration, the people will continue to enjoy quality democratic dividends.
“I can tell you authoritatively that the Governor I know in the person of His Excellency Deacon Udom Emmanuel by the time he finish his 8years, Akwa Ibom people will know, that they didn’t make mistake while voting him as their Governor in 2015”, he said.
Many who spoke commended Governor Udom Emmanuel for his forthrightness, saying that the caliber of persons in the likes of Governor Udom should always be encouraged in their aspiration to serve. Others argued that Udom Emmanuel’s administrative acumen is unprecedented.
They however, expressed confidence and trust in Governor Udom Emmanuel’s diligence to the skills and practices of governance.
They also thanked Commissioner Akan Okon for his commitment in interpreting the vision of his boss, the Governor exceptionally, saying that Akan Okon has refused to be misguided by the perceived benefits of his honourable position.
They said that Mr. Akan Okon is placing the need of the state above every other interest and often times he is being misunderstood because effecting positive change by its very nature engenders conflict and resistance.
Interestingly, the very nature of Akan Okon’s acumen involves taking a position on issues, making decisions and determining direction that will be of immense benefits to the people. Sometimes he is criticized, but to Akan Okon, criticism is just a test for commitment and dedication to service.
He weighs all issues, opinions and information and make the best possible decision often under time constraint and external pressure. He possesses an exceptional degree of stamina and physical energy. No wonder he is a force to reckon with in the state. Bravo!
