– The ongoing leadership crisis rocking the Ondo State House of Assembly continues as a former PDP lawmaker Sola Oluyede defects to APC
– Oluyede says his defection had the approval of the people of his constituency
– The lawmaker says he made due consultation before taking the decision
Sola Oluyede, a lawmaker in the Ondo state House of Assembly, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This comes even as the on-going leadership crisis rocking the state House of Assembly deepens.
Oluyede, representing Ose state constituency in the Assembly, announced his defection on the floor of the House during the plenary session on Tuesday, April 4, The Punch reports.
According to Oluyede, his defection had the approval of the people of his constituency, adding that he had made due consultation before taking the decision.
He said: “My defection is basically because I am a progressive person. I am from the Ondo North Senatorial District where the governor comes from and I have to join him to move the state forward.”
However, it was gathered that the 13 members of the House loyal to former speaker, Jumoke Akindele said the faction was not bothered about the defection of their colleague lawmakers to the ruling party. This comes even as they boycotted the plenary session again.
The spokesman of the faction, Mr. Siji Akindiose said there was nothing attractive in the new government of the APC that just started in the state, that would warrant defection of the lawmakers to the party.
He said: “This is just the government that just coming on board, what is it that attracted them to the party or the governor? We have no mandate to oppose any elected governor. We are just insisting that right things must be done.
“That someone belongs to the APC does not mean that such a person is more loyal to the governor than the PDP members in the House.”
NAIJ.com recalls that the new speaker, Bamidele Oloyelogun and three others had on Monday, April 3, dumped the PDP for APC.
