BENIN—THE wave of defections rocking Nigeria’s political clime may soon hit Edo State as no fewer than eight lawmakers of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state House of Assembly may have concluded plans to defect to other political parties.
Vanguard gathered that some of the parties in consideration include the Action Democratic Party, ADP and the Social Democratic Party, SDP.
The defection of the eight lawmakers, according to sources, is because they were not sure of getting the APC ticket.
It was gathered that the ban on campaign by the Edo APC leadership had heightened fears of the lawmakers that it might be late for them to get nomination of other political parties if they fail to secure APC ticket and so the sooner they move, the better.
The aggrieved lawmakers, it was gathered, are also complaining that their constituency projects were not being funded.
One of the lawmakers, who spoke to newsmen, raised fears of a looming mass defection of some Edo APC members over lack of political patronage by Governor Godwin Obaseki and uncertainty over their future in APC.
He said many of his colleagues do not know what they would use to campaign in their constituents even if they get the APC ticket.
National Chairman of the APC, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, had scheduled a meeting with all aggrieved APC leaders in the state for today to resolve all issues.
But Vanguard gathered yesterday that the planned meeting would not hold as the state executive council would begin a three days retreat in Abuja commencing today.
