The 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt has concluded this year’s Nigerian Army Sports Festival Half Marathon and Combat Road Race Competition with a charge on soldiers and officers of the Division to use the lessons learnt from the competition to improve on their combat readiness.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the event, the General Officer Commanding 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, Major-General Jamil Sarham said the Inter formations Half Marathon and Combat Road Race Competition will serve as an opportunity to promote mutual cooperation and comradeship amongst participants.
He said that the training and re-training of soldiers and officers in the Nigerian Army is pivotal to achieving the required regimentation, professional responsiveness and combat efficiency needed to tackle the various security challenges facing the Nigerian Army in particular and the country in general.
Sarham said the lessons learnt from the championship within the period is designed to provide participants with requisite knowledge to effectively discharge their task under the Division and the Nigerian Army.
“This initiative is therefore in line with the Chief of Army Staff vision which is to have a professionally responsive Nigerian Army in the discharge of its constitutional roles. A well trained officers and soldiers will effectively command men and equipment placed under his command.
“Therefore as an important segment of the Nigerian Army, you must take advantage of this competition opportunity to enhance your level of proficiency on the job. This competition could not have come at a better time than now where there are growing concerns on combat proficiency and endurance issues as it concerns formations and units in the Nigerian Army,” he stated
