A governorship aspirant under the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Imo State, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, has condemned the assault on Archbishop Anthony Obinna of the Owerri Catholic Archdiocese by members of his party.

The said attack on the cleric, happened last weekend.

In statement signed by the Director Media/Publicity of the Senator Araraume Destiny Foundation, Chief Kingsley Ufere, he stated that the hoodlums went after the Archbishop during the funeral mass for the burial of late Lolo Ezinne Eziada Juliana Mbata.

He said the hoodlums insulted the Archbishop and even threatened to physically assault him, adding that they made move to grab his microphone.

Ararume said, “We will like to state unequivocally that this act is totally unacceptable, condemnable and reprehensible.

“The perpetrators of this heinous offence should be brought to answer to the law.

“The person of Archbishop Obinna is a highly respected man of God and a senior citizen of our state. He should be treated with all measures of respect and dignity that he and his office deserve. The organisation also disassociates the ruling party, All Progressives Congress, APC, from this act and action.

“The leadership of the party at the state and national levels condemns this act in its entirety,” he said.

Senator Ararume further called on Imo state youths to shun all acts of violence and should not allow themselves to be used as thugs to carry out anti-social vices.

He added that the people of Imo state were basically Christians and understand the implications of desecrating the altar of God.
