YENAGOA—Bayelsa State Government, yesterday, waded into the face-off between Daewoo Engineering and Construction Company Limited and its host communities in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of the state.
Special Adviser to Bayelsa State Governor on Oil and Gas, Mr Felix Ayah, who met with representatives of the communities and Daewoo in his office in Yenagoa, urged the communities to reopen the company’s site, noting that the continued closure of the company was affecting it, communities and the state government.
He lauded the people of Kolokuma/Opokuma council for their understanding and respect, and expressed the state government’s commitment to ensuring lasting peace between multinational companies and host communities by resolving all conflicts.
Spokesman of the community, Dr Philip Ikiyei, thanked the state government for its timely intervention and lamented that the company had not lived up to its Corporate Social Responsibility, hence the communities’ action.
