A protest by youths from Ahoada community of Rivers State has shut down the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company’s station leading to a blackout in Bayelsa State.
The company’s communications manager, John Onyi, disclosed this yesterday, but did not speak about what led to the protest.
He said: “In view of the ugly incident, the entire Bayelsa State including Yenagoa, the state capital, has been thrown into darkness. Bayelsa state has only one source of power supply from Ahoada 132 kV lines.
“PHED is still making frantic effort to establish link with relevant authorities in the area with a view to finding out the remote cause of their action, to this end, we are appealing to our esteemed customers to exercise patience while the issue is being resolved.”
Onyi, who said a similar incident had happened earlier this February, appealed to the security agencies wade into the matter to forestall future occurrence.
