President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick yesterday declared that his victory at the just concluded elections into the executive committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) is for the entire Nigerian people.
Pinnick who spoke to journalists in his office said he was appreciative of the enormous support which he received from all Nigerians especially members of the board of the NFF who gave him the first endorsement.
He said it was absurd for a big football playing nation like Nigeria to be missing in a body like CAF more so when most African nations are always looking onto the country for leadership and direction.
“Nigeria is the winner in all this because the support we received was unprecedented; the federal government, the Senate president, members of both the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Sports, my entire board members, and the governors of Delta, Edo, Cross Rivers, Lagos states as well as the vibrant Nigeria sporting media.
On what to expect from the Ahmad Ahmad led CAF, Pinnick said despite the fact that they appreciate the contribution of the immediate past executive led by Isa Hayatou, that time has come for us to take the administration of the game in Africa.
“We appreciate and respect the achievement of Isa Hayatou and his team for the past 29 years but time has come for us to take the administration to the next level” added the NFF boss who also said he has nothing against some Nigerians who opposed his candidature.
