PORT HARCOURT—THE decomposing corpse of a chieftain of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State, Samuel Wanjoku, has been recovered in a forest between Omuanwa and Ubima community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.

The body was reportedly discovered by Police operatives and some of his community members that had been searching for the victims.

Meanwhile, Moses Ogu, who was abducted alongside Wanjoku, is yet to be found.

The victims were kidnapped last week along Ubima-Omuanwa Road on their way to Apani for a church event.

Samuel, who is the immediate younger brother to the lawmaker representing Ikwerre constituency in Rivers State House of Assembly, Azubuike Wanjoku, is also the Organising Secretary of the party in Ikwerre council.

It’s assassination—APC

The party has described the killing of Wanjoku as an assassination and not mere kidnapping.

In a statement yesterday, Ikwerre APC Campaign Organisation called on the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, and Commissioner of Police in the state, Ahmed Zaki, to investigate the killing.

The statement by Bouchi Nsirim and Ikenda Elechi, read: “Last week Sunday, the duo of Samuel Wanjoku, Organising Secretary of our party in Ikwerre council and Moses Ogu, a party chieftain honoured the invitation of the Anglican Church in their community, Apani, Ikwerre.

“On their way back to Port Harcourt, at about 3p.m., they were attacked and abducted by unknown gunmen along the Omuanwa-Ubima axis of the expressway.

“Sadly, the attention of APC Campaign Organisation was earlier drawn to the bullet-ridden decomposing corpse of Samuel Wanjoku deep inside the forest between Omuanwa and Ubima. Till this moment, the whereabouts of Moses Ogu remains unknown.

“As already known, those who kidnap for ransom have the habit of calling friends and families of their victims. But in this case, no call for ransom was made. For us therefore, it is clearly a case of assassination.”

Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the state Police Command, Nnamdi Omoni, said the Police are aware of the killing, adding that the decomposing remains of the victim have been deposited in the mortuary.

The Police spokesman stated that the Police have launched a manhunt for the killers, adding that no suspect has been arrested so far.
