ASABA—DELTA Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Chief Dan Okenyi, yesterday, in Asaba, directed the Nigerian Navy and Logistics Command, located in Oghara,  Ethiope West Local Government Area of the state, to stop further work on the disputed land between it and Oghara community.

Okenyi gave the directive at a meeting convened by the state government to look into the Certificate of Occupancy, C of O, allegedly issued to the Navy in respect of an additional piece of land outside the 500  by 500  meters known to the community, which the people are contesting.

The commissioner, who spoke to Vanguard on phone, said:  “We had a good meeting, we listened to both sides. However, the Navy officials did not come with relevant documents and they pleaded for time.

“I gave them two weeks and we agreed that within the two weeks, everybody should stay clear of the land. I gave the order as the Navy was threatening that they will move into the land. “I asked the Navy to stop work on the land until the issues are determined.  So when we reconvene in two weeks time, we will all review the matter.”
