BENIN—THE crisis rocking All Progressives Congress, APC, in Edo State has taken a twist as youths and ward leaders of the party in Edo Central senatorial zone have passed a vote of confidence on Chief Francis Inegbeneki and other leaders from the zone suspended indefinitely by the party’s State Working Committee.
The youths and ward leaders at an enlarged meeting in Ward 9, Opoji, in Esan Central Local Government Area of the state, also condemned and disassociated themselves from the purported suspension of their leaders.
Others suspended along with Chief Inegbeneki were Chief Henry Okoro, the Edo State Vice Chairman, Ken Ihensekhen, a former member of Edo State House of Assembly and ex-commissioner, over an alleged detention and holding hostage of the state Chairman, Mr Anslem Ojezua, at Uromi on January 2, 2017.
According to a communiqué by Secretary of Ward 9, Mr Momodu Onusua and Monday Ojeaga, Youth Leader, they called for the intervention of the leadership of the party in the state and national headquarters to intervene in the matter.
The communiqué said: “While trusting that the leadership of APC will do the needful, we hereby, unequivocally pass a vote of implicit confidence on our leaders, Chief Inegbeneki and others.”
The All ProgressiveYouths Disciples, APYD, on its part, said: “We condemn in strong terms the unlawful suspension of our highly responsive, dedicated and committed leaders.
“The activities of Ojezua on the alleged suspension of these leaders amount to harassment, intimidation, abuse of power of his office, which contravenes article 21 of APC constitution which provides for principles of fair hearing.
“We believe Ojezua and a few others are on a serial mission to destroy the party in Edo State so that Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, can take over this state. How else can one explain what is happening? Why is it that it is this period when all APC members are suppose to rally round Governor Godwin Obaseki to win the case in tribunal, that they are chasing people away from the party?”
“We call on the leadership of the party in the state and national headquarters to intervene in this issue. We cannot watch our leaders being embarrassed in this manner, and a few destroying the party.”
