For alleged refusal to honour its call, the Edo State House of Assembly has issued a warrant of arrest on the Managing Director of Rongtai Aluminum Company, Mr Chen Shijing.

The summons and warrant of arrest followed the consideration of a preliminary report of the Committee of the Whole on a petition against the Chinese firm’s boss on alleged maltreatment of a member of staff of the company.

The petition titled, “Case of serious ill-treatment, acts of threat to life, abandonment, neglect and oppression,” was written and signed by George Igbokwe (SAN), on behalf of the petitioner, Mr Ebebe Ukala.

The chairman of the committee, which investigated the petition, Mr Foly Ogedengbe, decried the nonchalant attitude of the company and its MD’s refusal to honour the invitation of the committee after the petition referred to it on February 14, 2019.

He said the petitioner appeared before the committee with his counsel, adding that members of the committee “observed that the petitioner has been tortured.”

The Speaker, Kabiru Adjoto, directed the state Commissioner of Police, Mr DanMallam Mohammed, to arrest and bring Shijing to plenary on April 1.
