Four suspected armed robbers have been confirmed dead after a shoot-out with the police in Bayelsa State.

The names of the suspects were given as Solomon Atuya, Dickson Ebibatei, Preye Niwanidigha and Oyinkuro Robert.

The four hoodlums were said to have met their waterloo after allegedly robbing some persons of about N2m and other belongings.

It was learnt that the suspects died at a hospital due to injuries sustained during the gun duel with the police on October 13, 2017.

Operatives of the Bayelsa State Special Anti-Robbery Squad were said to have given the suspected robbers a hot chase following a distress call by some concerned residents in Yenagoa.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State Command, Mr. Asinim Butswat, confirmed the develop-ment.

Butswat said, “On October 13, 2017, about 1.30pm, policemen responded to a distress call that armed men in a Honda car robbed some persons of their money totalling N2m and other belongings.

“SARS operatives chased the hoodlums and intercepted them along Isaac Boro Expressway in Yenagoa. The suspects exchanged gunfire with the team. Others attempted to escape, but were chased by youths and arrested.

“They were beaten up by the angry mob. The suspects sustained varying degrees of injury and were taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa. One British-made pistol, one locally-made pistol and one Honda car with number plate EF 66 LSR were recovered from them.

“Investigation is ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects.”
