Bearing any last minute change of mind, a former lawmaker representing Eket Federal Constituency in the House of Representative and deputy political leader of Esit Eket, Hon. Bassey Dan Abia a.k.a Badan is set to dump the Peoples Democratic Party (P.D.P) for the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Dropping the hint to our correspondent in Eket on Wednesday, the personal assistant to the political leader, Mr. Emmanuel Smith said the event which will witness massive decamping of followers of the former lawmaker in support of his boss, may take place in few days time.
Mr. Smith said Dan Abia Jnr has consulted widely with all his supporters within Eket Federal Constituency and even outside the State and has gotten the nod to dump P.D.P for A.P.C.
Giving reasons for his boss’s intending action, bearing in mind that he is a political leader in Esit Eket Local Government Area and a founding member of the P.D.P in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Smith attributed the decision to the insensitivity of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State to the complains of major stakeholders of the party who labored and sacrifice so much to make Udom the governor.
He described the Peoples Democratic Party (P.D.P) both at national and State level as a sinking ship whose sailors are not willing to learn from the mistakes of the past, adding that it will amount to a political suicide for his boss to continue to remain in a party that has lost direction.
“Hon. Bassey Dan Abia has done everything possible including advice to Governor Udom Emmanuel, who happens to be the leader of P.D.P in the State, on how to position the party for the benefit of all members but his efforts fell on deep ears”, Smith said.
“I want to tell you authoritatively that my boss has already dumped the P.D.P in principle, what is left now is the open denunciation and declaration for A.P.C which will take place in a few days from now”, he said further.
He blamed Mr. Ephraim Inyang who is the present Commissioner for Works in Akwa Ibom State for shielding the Governor from major stakeholders of the party, thereby hijacking the machinery of the party into the hands of a selfish few.
The Personal Assistant to Dan Abia described his boss as a grassroot politician whose exit from the P.D.P will affect the fortunes of the party as over 3,000 followers are willing to decamp with the political leader.
When contacted, Elder Benji Udobia who is the political leader of Esit Eket said he has heard of the intention of his deputy but that Dan Abia himself has not informed him of it.
