The Imo State House of Assembly has debunked the various mass media reports falsely claiming that the Clerk of the State Assembly, Mr. Chris Duru, has been suspended from office.

A press statement made available to our correspondent by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mr. Ekwezuo, explained that a motion for the suspension of the Clerk was moved by the Majority Leader of the House and member representing Owerri Municipal State Constituency, Mr. Lugard Osuji.

Sequel to the motion which alleged under-performance and non-compliance with certain laid down rules and procedures of the House in the discharge of his duties as the basis for the motion, a five-man committee led by Mr. Kennedy Ibeh, (Obowo state constituency) was set up to investigate Duru’s activities from 2011 till date to ascertain the veracity or otherwise of the allegation.

According to the CPS, the committee have one week to submit its report to the House.
Again, a related motion seeking Duru’s suspension was overruled by the Speaker, Acho Ihim, on the grounds that the allegation must first be substantiated by the committee set up to that effect before any punitive measure could be taken against Duru.
