IPOB members in prison get hundreds of mattresses from Abia AG …


– The attorney-general of Abia, Umeh Kalu, donated hundreds of mattresses to prisons in the state

– Kalu said his donation was to ensure that the detained members of IPOB are comfortable in prison

– He said he understands that the prisons are challenged

Members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) currently in prison have received hundreds of mattresses from the attorney-general of Abia state, Umeh Kalu.

The Cable reports that the donation was made because of the increase prison inmates due to the arrest of many IPOB members.

“They (the detained IPOB members) deserve a comfortable place to lay their heads.

“It’s all in our interest to reform the prisons so that when they come out they won’t come out with bitterness against the society,” Kalu said.

He explained that he knows the prisons are facing some challenges.

Ayoka Sylvester, the comptroller of prisons in Abia state, commended Kalu for the gesture.

“We always go out of our way to plead for assistance in order to create conducive environment for the prisons to play their reformatory roles.

“Kalu has succeeded in] in suppressing tensions in the prisons usually generated by discomforts, adding that the items would be distributed to the prisons in Umuahia, Aba and Arochukwu,” he said.

NAIJ.com earlier reported how the Nigerian army on Sunday, October 8, reportedly stormed the home of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi kanu.

According to several reports, including a claim by a former minister of aviation, Fani-Kayode, the army carted away some personal belongings of the IPOB leader.

A Facebook user, Prince Kanu Meme, claimed that the soldiers went away with clothes, generators and furniture in their trucks.
