The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) says the party is unperturbed by the defections in the National Assembly.
The state Publicity Secretary of the APC, Engr Mike Ozoemena, in a statement issued on Tuesday, said the defections marked the culmination of all the ‘rumours, shenanigans and outright grandstanding of the members of the 8th National Assembly supposedly with majority of APC in both arms’.
Ozoemena, who said the APC in Abia State viewed the development as a blessing in disguise, added that the president would now settle down to working with an opposition legislature instead of an enemy in the house.
“The Senate and House of Representatives had at inception of this Democratic dispensation composed of majority of All Progressives Congress (APC) in both chambers but trouble started almost immediately on the day of their inauguration.
“It would be recalled that the President Muhammadu Buhari, eager to show the world that he is truly a convert and a democrat left the party and the party members in both chambers of the assembly to do what was right and select for themselves the leadership of the two chambers but unfortunately as it turned out, it was a costly mistake as the party leadership at the time bungled the exercise and so the dragon was born!
“Dr. Saraki and Dogara who couldn’t hide their ambitions to occupy the position of Senate President and Speaker respectively connived with their erstwhile colleagues of PDP extraction in both chambers to defy the orders and directives of the party leadership at the time and emerged Senate President and Speaker respectively.
“So, from the first day of the inauguration of this 8th national assembly, the government of President Buhari found itself working with an antagonistic NASS which supposedly is from the same party, the APC. Having tried all they could to have their way with this man of integrity, the President, this day was born and today finally the bubble burst.
“We hope that those of them in Abia State who never believed nor worked for the emergence of our dear president and government will quickly retrace their steps back to their original house PDP and PPA so that we can quickly reorganize our party and get ready to route out this inept and clueless PDP government in Abia State.
“This should actually be a day of celebration for all original members of our great party, APC,” the statement read.
