The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, has urged residents to remain calm and strive towards maintaining peace and order ahead of the December 2, 2017, local government elections in the state.

Emmanuel, who made the call during a rally by the Peoples Democratic Party at the Uyo Township Stadium, said regardless of political leanings, all contestants and their supporters must ensure peace reigns by shunning any violent tendencies during the period.

He said, “In the forthcoming election, there should be no violence. The PDP did its primaries and congresses, there was no violence, so on  December 2, there should be no violence.

“The PDP is the clear favourite in Akwa Ibom. Our party has distinguished itself through its track record of transparency in the distribution of the nation’s wealth. It is only the PDP that has shown fairness, justice and equity in this country.”

In his remarks, Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee of the party, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, while also suing for peace ahead of the local council elections in the state, said that they were confident of victory in the contest.

While affirming the party’s commitment towards peace and development in every part of the country, Makarfi praised Governor Emmanuel for his efforts in uniting all members of the PDP, urging him to continue to support its activities as it prepares for its national convention on December 9 and 10.
