A Magistrate’s Court in Akure,  Ondo State, has remanded one Isaac Ojo for allegedly killing a trader, Mrs. Lydia Ayeni, on her farm in Ipe Akoko, in the Akoko South-East Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The suspect had allegedly raped the victim in the bush before killing her on February 28, 2018 when the incident happened.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Ayeni had gone to her farm that morning to work. When she did not return home by afternoon, a search party was organised to look for her.

Her corpse was reportedly found in the bush the following day.

“There was blood in her private parts. We saw signs that she struggled with somebody in the bush.

“It was later discovered that it was Ojo that carried out the dastardly act and he was arrested,” a village source said.

The police prosecutor, Mr. Martins Olowofeso, said the accused hit the 45-year-old woman with a stone in the head which resulted in her death.

He noted that the offence was punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State 2006.

The magistrate, Mrs. Victoria Bob-Manuel, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
