NANTA set for 42nd AGM in Port Harcourt


The National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies (NANTA) will hold its 42nd annual general meeting next week. The event slated for Port Harcourt, River State, on Thursday,  March 22nd. The organisation said it chose Port Harcourt host city  to  inform the world that River State  is not just about oil but that it also has tourism endowments.

NANTA President,  Mr. Bankole Bernard, in a pre-AGM briefing,  said  the AGM would provide opportunity to show case the tourism and travel opportunities that abound in the state and to also tell the nine states in the  zone that the body recognizes their contributions.

He further explained that it would give NANTA members in other zone a sense of belonging.

According to him, “We do not want people from that zone to think Port Harcourt is all about oil. We want them to know that Port Harcourt has travel and tourism potential also.”

Speaking further, the President stated that in other climes aviation and tourism are always together but that in Nigeria the reverse is the case, adding that tourism cannot without the travel industry.

On the number of delegates that will attend the AGM scheduled for March 22 to 24, 2018, Bernard said that the organisation was looking at 400 travel agents in Port Harcourt.

The President disclosed that Senator UdomaEgba would be the keynote speaker and that the Minister of State, Aviation, SenatorHadiSirika has also promised to attend.

Other dignitaries billed to attend the Port Harcourt AGM to include, the Director General of Nigeria Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC), MrFolorunsho Coker, the Director, General of National Council for Arts and Culture and other partners.

According to him, “Port Harcourt is going to be very interesting. My joy is that that day will come and it would be a fulfilled day.”

Also speaking, the Chairman, 42nd AGM Planning Committee, Mr Susan Akporiaye, said NANTA has contacted with  commissioners of tourism in the nine states in the zone to participate, and that the NANTA AGM in Port Harcourt would be something that would live in the minds of many for a long time.

Speaking further, Akporiaye added that NANTA wants to assist the Rivers State is not just about oil, tell the world that the state is safe and hence the association decided to host its AGM in the state.

She added that a lot of programmes have been lined up for the event, which include: two gala events, Walk For Tourism among others,

The Chairman explained that the first gala event is to appreciate their partners while the second gala event is for everybody to have fun.
