The Ondo State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mohammed Malami says incarceration and arrest of Indian hemp planters and growers has not in any way reduced the consumption of the substance in the society.

Mr Malami disclosed this at a sensitisation walk against drug abuse organised by the agency in partnership with a youth organisation.
Jonah Omorowa has details.

The NDLEA boss said for the war against drug abuse to be effectively won, efforts must be geared towards constant sensitisation of the youths.

In her remarks, a youth coordinator Mrs Nimat Siaka, said government must partner with different groups to reduce involvement of young people in drug abuse
Secretary to the Ondo state government, Ifedayo Abegunde assured NDLEA of government support in eradicating illicit drugs in the state.
The sensitization exercise is expected to be extended to other local government areas in the state.
