Obaseki vows to improve standard of education in Edo

BENIN—GOVERNOR Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to improve the standard of education in the state, saying that teachers who will instil morals and discipline in students will be recruited for schools in the state.

Obaseki stated this when he received executive members of Idia College Old Girls Association, ICOGA, at the Edo State Government House in Benin, yesterday.

He said: “We have solid infrastructure in our schools today but we are going to complement the infrastructure with better teaching and learning standards by employing teachers who are not only good in their respective subjects but will also instil discipline and morals in our pupils and students.

“We are re-thinking our education sector. Something went wrong and it has taken us from the enviable position we used to occupy. We are assessing what went wrong and what can be done to revive the standard of our education system. Education is not all about having the infrastructure, but about the content of the instruction and morals.”
