– The Imo state Governor Rochas Okorocha has come under attacks over his plan to relocate Imo State University Teaching Hospital (IMSUTH)

– Okorocha had insisted that IMSUTH be relocated from Orlu to Owerri

– But the Orlu youth condemned the action as they called on the governor to rescind his decision for peace to reign

A group under the umbrella of Orluzurumee Youths Assembly has berated Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state over his plan to relocate the Imo State University Teaching Hospital (IMSUTH) from Umunna, Orlu local government area of the state to Owerri.

In a message sent to NAIJ.com, a Facebook user, Darlington Uzoahia said the National Executive Council (NEC), Central Working Committee (CWC), and the entire members of Orluzurumee Youths Assembly have expressed stiff resistance and opposition to the sustained plans of Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha to relocate the Imo State University Teaching Hospital (IMSUTH) established at Umunna, Orlu local government area of Imo state in 2005.

The Orlu youths are therefore strategizing on how best to force Okorocha to rescind such unprogressive decision which they said does them no good.

This was the outcome of the recent general meeting of the assembly held at General Nwamkpi at Orlu over the weekend.

He said: “In a communiqué they issued at the end of the general meeting, the youths led by Comrade Dynamic Darlington Uzoahia as National President, stated that the Orluzurumee Youth Assembly has observed with regret and total dismay that Governor Rochas Okorocha is unrelenting in his plan to relocate IMSUTH Orlu, which decision they argued is not in the interest of the masses and the entire youths of the zone.

“While condemning the myopic and ill-conceived resolve by Okorocha to forcefully relocate IMSUTH from Orlu to Owerri, the youths explained that they cannot understand why a man and personality as that of the Office of the Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly will undertake to function as the Chairman of IMSUTH Relocation Committee, thus creating an obvious impression that the Imo legislature is now an extension and appendage of the executive.

“This, they say negate their statutory role as law makers who should call the excesses of the Executive to order and execute oversight functions.

“Consequently, Orluzurumee youths Assembly explained that the decision of the governor to appropriate the teaching hospital for his Palm Estate University is tantamount to the destruction of the economic base of Orlu town and hence rejects the ideal, stating that the stakeholders of Orlu zone including the youths were not consulted or carried along in arriving at such retrogressive decision.

“They also reminded the governor that Imo State University Teaching Hospital (IMSUTH) Orlu is the official Orlu zone Campus of Imo State University, (IMSU) which has its administrative headquarters or main campus in Owerri, the state capital, with the Engineering Faculty now at Umunato Okigwe.

“Okorocha’s action according to Orluzurumee Youths Assembly runs counterproductive and contrary to the law establishing the University and IMSUTH which law was effectively and efficiently implemented during the reign of an Orlu son, His Excellency Chief Achike Udenwa as governor of Imo State.

“As a matter of fact, the youths also reiterated the fact that IMSUTH is of so much socio-economic importance to the people of Orlu zone in particular and entire Imo state at large, which if eventually relocated would be detrimental to the development of the area by putting over 80% of the people and inhabitants into undesirable health hazards and economic straits or stiffness, going by the fact that the school has attracted so many investments which would suffer great losses if relocated.

“In the release also, the youth exclaimed thus, that Orluzurumee Youths Assembly is highly disturbed by the intention of Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha to relocate the health institution, most especially now, that Imo State University, Teaching Hospital has started attracting support from the leaderships of various groups and in particular from Orlu people in Diaspora, such as “ORA USA” Whose leadership led by Chief Sir Fidelis Ezewike, only recently has donated several life saving equipment and has continued to partner with foreign bodies and international expertise in strengthening the operations and healthcare services rendered by IMSUTH.

“It was following this insistence by Okorocha to relocate the University Teaching Hospital, that Orluzurumee Youths Assembly calls on all traditional rulers in Orlu Zone led by HRM (Dr) E. C. Okeke, and other leaders of thought, the clergy to as a matter of public importance and urgency, condemn such move and speak out against it.

“In the same line, they have beckoned on all the legislators of Orlu zone, whether at the state or federal levels to call the said obstinate and obdurate Governor Okorocha to order on the suicidal plan to relocate IMSUTH. This they said if ignored would spell doom since they will do all within their capacity to stop the governor, no matter the cost, they concluded.”
