CONCERNED  Group of Oil Producing Communities in Ondo State  has alleged lack of development  of the  communities despite the state being  the   fifth  largest oil producing state in the country.

“There  is virtually nothing to show in the oil producing communities despite the state ranking as the 5th largest  oil producing state in Nigeria”, the group said at the weekend.

The group’s Chairman, High  Chief Loto  Amehinola Finance, flanked by the Secretary Okiriji Ayubapiriye Nathaniel,  and Legal Adviser, Kpiliboh Eddy,  said  oil  exploration and exploitation in the area has had  devastating consequences.

“It is  a surprise that we are still left in  total darkness while under-development is the order of the day in our communities, no thanks to poor  attention   by government,”the group added.

“Regrettably,  since the inception of the NDDC Board, no Ondo State person or individual has been Managing   Director, Chairman  or Executive Director. “This is the height of  marginalization  we have suffered in the unfair distribution of the NDDC  positions. “The   few areas where government attention would have been felt had always gone into wrongs hands, those who stand on the pillar of destruction”. The group pleaded with government to visit the core oil producing communities  to verify their claims  of under-development, saying contracts given out on projects  should be made public to the communities to ensure proper  monitoring and supervision.
