The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ondo State has vowed to ensure justice for its officer, Sehinde Abolusoro, who was crushed to death by a reckless driver in Akure last weekend.
Mr. Abolusoro, a Deputy Route Commander (DRC) with the corps, died on the job after being struck by a speeding driver, Sola Olagunju, when he veered off his lane.
The late FRSC officer was on the side of the road checking vehicles when the accident occurred.
Vincent Jack, the Ondo Sector Commander of the FRSC, said they were saddened by the shocking and brutal death of Mr. Abolusoro.
He disclosed that the late officer was very dutiful with his job, adding that the command and many of his colleagues at work were unable to hold back tears after hearing of his death.
Mr. Jack, who spoke shortly after flagging off the 2017 ember months campaign in Akure, also disclosed that the killer driver has since been arrested over his reckless driving.
He added that an investigation has already commenced over the case with a view to bring the culprit to justice.
“And we hope to also charge the driver (Olagunju) to the court after the investigation is complete,” Mr. Jack told reporters.
The Ondo State Sector Commander, along with other senior officers of the command, had on Monday visited the families of the late Abolusoro to express their condolences over this brutal death.
According to Mr. Jack, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) will ensure that all of Mr. Abolusoro’s entitlements are monitored and accrued to his immediate family members.
He added that the command would continue to perform its constitutional role in ensuring prompt safety on Nigerian roads even in the face of threats and intimidation.
Mr. Abolusoro is survived by his wife and two children.
