Fifty persons have been arrested by the Nigerian Army during Operation Crocodile Smile II which was launched in Akwa Ibom State about two weeks ago, the Commander, 2 Brigade, Uyo, Brig-Gen. Abdul Ibrahim Hassan, has disclosed.
Hassan, who disclosed this during an interview weekend, said those arrested included kidnappers, vandals, armed robbers, cultists and economic saboteurs, adding that dangerous weapons were also recovered.
“We have arrested cultists, kidnappers, armed robbers, economic saboteurs, vandals and those people that carried out nefarious activities. We have arrested so many of them with incriminating weapons,” he said.
According to him, those arrested by the soldiers have been handed over to the police, Department of State Services (DSS), and Nigerian Civil Defence Corps (NCDC) for further investigation and prosecution.
He explained that Operation Crocodile Smile II has been given the official mandate to ensure a crime-free society in the state and acts that undermine the security and safety of the people.
