‘Operation Impact’ kicks off in Akwa Ibom – Vanguard News

The new Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State, Don Awunah, has launched  ‘Operation Impact’ to flush criminals out of the state.

The exercise, announced during his maiden briefing in the state capital, according to him, was aimed at sectorizing the state for optimal service delivery to the people. He stated that a careful analysis of the state’s crime profile revealed that cultism, kidnap for ransom, murder, stealing, are the most prevalent crimes committed in the State.

“It is a crime reduction strategy aimed among other things, at ridding the state of armed robbery, kidnapping, rape, cultism and all other anti-social behaviours.

Stating the gains of the operation few days after its launch, the police boss said a notorious kidnap gang was smashed by operatives leading to the rescue of a Reverend Father of St. Michael Parish, Ikot Etim village in Ukanafun Local Government Area on the 18th  of February, 2017.
