Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai, has expressed satisfaction with the just concluded Operations Crocodile Smile II in the Niger Delta region and parts of South West states, saying that the exercise was successful.
Buratai spoke yesterday at an event to mark the end of the exercise at the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, saying the operations, which were flagged off on October 6, gave specific mandate to the formations and units to flush out criminal elements in Niger Delta and parts of South West and that the mandate was achieved.
He said, “The exercise has achieved the desired effect in reducing to barest minimum, the prevailing security challenges, including illegal oil bunkering, militancy, kidnapping, cultism and pipeline vandalism, among other vices, in the Niger Delta region… The tempo of the exercise was felt in Akwa Ibom, Bayesla, Cross Rivers, Delta, Edo, Lagos, Ogun and Rivers States, particularly across the riverrine areas. . I followed keenly the operations of the exercise through situation reports from the participating formations and briefs from my principal staff officers, who consistently monitored the conduct of this exercise.”
