– The former First Lady was received by state government officials
Former First Lady, Patience Jonathan, returned to Port Harcourt from Abuja where she has been staying with her husband, Goodluck Jonathan.
According to a Faceook posts by one Efcc Chiko, the former First Lady arrived at the Portharcourt International Airport on Sunday, April 23.
Patience was received by Rt Hon Evans Bipi who is the chief whip of the Rivers state House of Assembly and the former Speaker of the state Assembly, Adams Dabotorudima.
Mrs Jonathan expressed gratitude to God for her journey and prayed for the state.
“I thank God for journey mercies.”
Mrs Jonathan is battling a corruption case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission as she was prevented from making withdrawal from the account in spite of a court order lifting the restrictions from her account.
Bank officials declined to initiate any transaction for Mrs. Jonathan, despite spending time in the bank’s premises.
In an interview with Premium Times on Wednesday April 12, Rasheed Bolarinwa, Skye Bank’s head of corporate communication, said the bank had received a stay of execution order filed by the anti-graft agency prior to Mrs Jonathan’s visit to the bank.
Mr Bolarinwa confirmed that the bank was also notified of an appeal by the EFCC against the court order.
NAIJ.com previously reported that the EFCC had appealed the order and also asked for a stay of execution of the judgement.
“We have appealed the order,” Wilson Uwujaren, EFCC spokesperson, said in a telephone interview.
