BENIN CITY- OVER one thousand members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo state, led by the national President of the Road Transport Employees Association (RTEAN), Alhaji Musa Isiwele and retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr. Roland Omatoje, have dumped the party for the All Progressives Congress, party, APC, citing what they described as the developmental strides of the governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration in the state as reasons.
Alhaji Isiwele and his supporters were received into the APC at Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area by the state chairman of the APC, Anslem Ojezua and state secretary of the party, Mr. Lawrence Okah while Omatoje and his supporters were received at Otuo, Owan East Local Government Area of the state by the Deputy Chief whip of the House of Representatives and member representing Owan Federal constituency of Edo state in the House of Representatives, Mr. Pally Iriase.
Alhaji Isiwele who gave reasons for their defection said “we are tired of the PDP because we see no hope there anymore. And we are particularly satisfied with the performance of governor Obaseki. We want prosperity for our people and that is the essence of politics.”
“As it is today, Obaseki is working quietly across the state and that is what we crave for. We play politics of development and not opposition for the sake of opposition. So we are here to contribute our quota to the development of the party and the state in general¨.
Recieving the defectors, state chairman of the APC, Ojezua assured the defectors of equal rights with the old members of the APC, saying that “our mission is to play politics of development and not politics of divide and rule which we witnessed during the PDP administration in the state.”
“We are happy we have another performing governor in the person of Obaseki who is consolidating on the progresses made by his predecessor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole. APC will continue its developmental programmes and we will not rest until Edo people are satisfied with basic amenities.”
Speaking also at Otuo, Mr. Iriase who noted that the defection had further depleted the PDP in the area asserted that “the PDP is gone in Edo state. They are overwhelmed with the infrastructural development of the APC led government in Edo state.”
“Governor Obaseki has started very well and working silently across the state. He is going to fulfill all he promised the people of the state and with the support of our new members, we all will join hands with the government to make our state greater.”
Among dignitaries present at the ceremony includes APC chairmen in the five Local Government Areas in Edo Central, Chief Francis Inegbeniki, Chief Okoror among others.
