Police nab three suspects over murder of Delta businessman

Detectives attached to the Delta state Police Command, Asaba, have arrested three persons in connection with the purported murder of a 52-year-old businessman, identified as Chiedu Abanaga, in Asaba in the early hours of Saturday.

The Commissioner of Police, CP, in the state, Mustafa Muhammad, who confirmed the arrest of the suspects to DAILY POST in Asaba, said, “the businessman was killed, and his body dumped between two shops in Cable Point area of Asaba. We found the body of the victim with bruises, and on intelligence gathering, we arrested three persons who are currently being interrogated by our men at the state CID. Investigation is on going”.

It was gathered that the businessman was killed for allegedly refusing to part with N100,000 to his business partners over unspecified business they jointly executed in Asaba.

But a relation to the deceased, who spoke to DAILY POST in Asaba on condition of anonymity, said “the body of my brother was found with bruises, it shows a ritual murder. The police should be able to tell us in their investigation those responsible for his death.”

The victim was said to have been killed on Wednesday evening by yet-to-be-identified gunmen on his way home around Cable Point. The murderers subsequently dumped his body between two shops in the area, a situation that attracted residents to the scene who then alerted the police.

Speaking further, the Police commissioner disclosed that a robbery suspect, Ebi Tobi, who specialized in robbing motorcycle owners in Burutu community was on Thursday arrested, adding that the police recovered from the suspect: Ak 47, ammunition and a battle axe.

He said, “the suspect is now at the police custody at the state CID Asaba, and investigation is ongoing. The suspect claimed to be from Isoko community, precisely from Enhwe community in Isoko south. The police also recovered a stolen motorcycle from the suspect. He will be charged to court on completion of investigation.”
