Yamap zone will host the 2018 Evangelical Lutheran Church Malaclo Circuit Youth Rally next year.
This was announced during the closing ceremony on Sunday when host Gawac zone, made up of Buakap congregation, Kisiwaga, Wabubu and Malaclo parishes, officially presented the baton, or better known by Lutherans as “hap palang,” to Yamap zone to host the next youth conference.
Speaking on behalf of the Yamap zone delegates, Teko Masep, thanked host Gawac zone for their hospitality during the one-week youth rally, stating that it was a success.
Mr Masep said Yamap is located in the inlands of Salamaua Local Level Government, and one has to climb mountains, cross rivers and pass through grassland to get there.
“We faced difficulties while trying to reach government services, but we struggle each day to face challenges of distance and manpower to get what we want.”
“Thus, we are happy to host the 2018 ELC Malaclo Circuit Youth rally, but to be honest, we are not ready,” Mr Masep said.
He said that is the reason why they illustrated it by bringing a toddler up to receive the “hap palang,” stating that hosting the event will depend on the preparation stage of it.
Salamaua LLG president Philemon Tomala, on behalf of Gawac zone, urged Yamap zone delegates not to be troubled.
“It is very difficult to host such programs and it takes many days, requires many resources where finance and manpower is needed to make it happen, and I pledge Gawac zone support to all Yamap zone delegates,” Mr Tomala said.
He said the youth rally just started after many years, and all Lutherans of Malaclo Circuit must support it and not let it die.
Mr Tomala urged all Malaclo Circuit believers to climb the mountains to Yamap next year for the rally.
Meanwhile, Malaclo Circuit president Pastor Matage Nada said the rally first started with a few youth in 2014, and the number has grown since then.
