UMUAHIA—WIVES of the 17 Southern Governors of Nigeria have converged in Umuahia, the Abia State capital for their 4th quarterly meeting. It is being hosted by the wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu.
The governors wives expected at the three day meeting are those from South West, South-South and South East states.
The meeting holding under the umbrella of Southern Governor’s Wives Forum [SGWF], would discuss issues on women development; upliftment of the girl-child as well as how to support the governors of Southern Nigeria to develop the nation and make Nigeria one unified country of love and hope.
The SGWF, according a statement issued by Eze Achusi, the Chief Press Secretary to Abia Governor’s wife, was initiated by the wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari and its inaugural meeting was held in Owerri, Imo State.
The second meeting of the Forum was hosted by Lagos State in June last year while Akwa Ibom State hosted the third meeting in October last year before the turn of Abia.
The aim of the Forum, according to the statement includes to serve as a mechanism to strongly support the programmes and activities of the wife of the President of Nigeria; to complement the efforts of the Southern Governors; promote unity and peaceful co-existence among the Southern States of Nigeria and impact positively on the lives of women, children and youths.

The wife of Imo State Governor, Mrs. Nkechi Okorocha is the pioneer chairperson while Mrs. Sherifat Aregbesola is the Vice Chairperson.
