Stop politicising security in Bayelsa – APC tells PDP, Dickson

The All Progressives Congress (APC)  in Bayelsa State has warned Governor Seriake Dickson and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) not to drag security agencies in the state into politics.

The chairman of APC in the state, Jothan Amos esq, while speaking with newsmen in Yenagoa on Tuesday, urged the state government and the PDP leadership to see the issue of posting a commissioner of police as purely the prerogative of the Inspector General of Police.

Reacting to a statement credited to Governor Dickson and the PDP leadership protesting the posting of Mr Joseph Mukan, as seventh commissioner of police in the state, Amos said the safety of citizens should be the primary aim of all stakeholders no matter their political affiliation .

Governor Dickson,  while receiving defectors to the PDP recently, had said that the opposition party had created impression that the new commissioner would do their biddings.

The state PDP chairman, Cleopas Moses, had also accused leaders of the APC of influencing the transfers and deployments of commissioners in the state at will.

He said: “Their aim is to instil fear in the citizenry and create a false impression that the APC would use security agencies to take over the state in the forthcoming elections.”
