A policeman deployed to the venue of the All Progressives Congress’ primaries in Delta North Senatorial District has shot two students of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Asaba.

The shooting happened on Wednesday, and it led to the death of one of the victims.

The yet-to-be-identified policeman reportedly fled the scene immediately.

The APC senatorial primary election was held at the Federal College of Education (Technical) Asaba, even though the school was in full session.

The victim reportedly died before help could come, as delegates who were at the venue to vote for their choice aspirant also ran away, for fear of being shot by the policeman.

The survivor was said to be recuperating at the Federal Medical Centre, where the two victims were taken to.

The APC senatorial primary featured the wife of a former national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mrs. Mariam Nneamaka Ali; a former House of Representatives member for Ika South, Doris Uboh; and one Chief Oyibode who vied for the party’s ticket.

It was gathered that the policeman fled for fear of being lynched by the students that trooped out to apprehend him.

It was not clear at the time of filing this report what led to the incident. The students went after the suspect, but they could not apprehend him because he was still armed.

Voting however continued after other security agents at the venue brought normalcy to the area.

The Speaker of the Students’ Union Government of the institution, Onochie Vincent Ubani, wondered why such sensitive exercise was brought to the school premises at a time the school was in session.

Ubani said that his personal aide, Nweke Henry, a 200-level student of Industrial Technology, who just completed his examination, was one of the victims.

A student who pleaded anonymity said the victims were shot at when they tried to force their way into the school to attend lectures as the policemen prevented them from entering the campus.

The State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Mustafa, confirmed the incident, saying one of the students died from gunshot wounds.
