Suspected Herdsmen Kill LGA Secretary In Enugu


Tension has heightened in communities in Uzo-Uwani local government area of Enugu State, following the alleged murder of the secretary of the local government council by armed men suspected to herdsmen along Olo town in Ezeagu local government area of the state

It was gathered that the late secretary identified as Nnamdi Ogueche, reportedly went for a peace talk between communities and the herdsmen that have been terrorising parts of the area in the recently.

It was further learnt that the council scribe, who was in company of three others in a vehicle, were returning from the peace meeting when the alleged herdsmen attacked their vehicle.

According to reports, while the occupants of the vehicle jumped out in different directions for safety, the assailants pursued the council scribe shooting him in the process.

When contacted, the chairman of the local government area, Mr Fidelis Ani, confirmed the killing. He however added that the reason for the killing remains unknown.

Meanwhile, the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Sulaiman Balarabe, said yesterday, during a press briefing, that the command has arrested three persons in Port Harcourt, in connection with the abduction of a priest.

He also disclosed that the command has commenced investigation into the abduction and death of another priest, identified as Fr. Clement Ugwu, who was abducted from his parish, St Mark’s Catholic Parish, Obinofia Ndiuno in Ezeagu local government area of Enugu State at about 9pm on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 by unknown gun men.

He was reported to have been shot on the leg before they forcefully took him away.

After a frantic search by some local residents in collaboration with the diocese for a whole week, his body was recovered and he was buried on March 23 amidst tears.
