A timber lorry loaded with logs and some people sitting on top of it has killed three persons in a head-on collision with a Hilux Toyota van.
The injured were taken to the Ondo State Specialist Hospital at Ikare-Akoko by workers of the Federal Road Safety (FRSC) from Ikare Unit Command.
The accident occurred along Ikare-Agbaluku-Arigidi Akoko road.
FRSC’s Ondo Sector Commander, Rotimi Adeleye, blamed timber lorry owners for loading logs abnormally and sitting allowing people to sit on the top of the vehicles.
According to him, the act is unacceptable as it does not show regards for their lives.
Adeleye said he had discussed the issue with Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on how to reduce the menace.
The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the State Hospital in Ikare, Dr Wale Oguntuase, confirmed the death of three persons in the morgue.
He said a victim with a head injury was referred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) at Owo, while there were others with various degrees of injury.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Okeagbe-Akoko, Adetarami Ibitayo, a Superintendent of Police (SP), said he had made arrangement for the removal of the vehicle.
He added that investigation had begun into the matter.
An observer, Kehinde Ojuolape, regretted that Ikare-Agbaluku-Arigidi road recently recorded many accidents.
He called for the construction of speed breakers on the road to save the lives of road users.
