Two corps members die in Bayelsa auto crash


Two members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) died on Monday in an auto crash in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State while returning from their final clearance in preparation for the passing out ceremony this Thursday.

The accident occurred at the Swali Bridge in the state capital involving a tipper and a tricycle that was conveying the corps members back from the clearances venue.

Daily Trust learnt that the tricycle had tried to overtake the tipper before the two collided.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Bayelsa State, Mr Ikechukwu Igwe, confirmed the death of two corps members to journalists yesterday.

The  Bayelsa State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Loto Bolade Omolayo, described the incident as “unfortunate.”

She said, “Two of the Corps Members died as a result of the injuries sustained during the accident, while the other two are being treated by a team of competent consultants at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Yenagoa.

“The NYSC Family is saddened by this sudden loss. We commiserate with their families and pray for the repose of the souls of the dead and quick recovery of the injured corps members,” she stated.
