Rivers State Female Volleyball Team and Male Basketball teams have qualified to represent the zone at the Forthcoming National Youth Games (NYG)slated to hold in Ilorin, Kwara State, next month.
The State U-15 Female Volleyball Team beat her Delta State counterpart two set against one in their last game while the state male basketball team, in same category beat Cross Rivers State to qualify.
Speaking in their separate interviews with Tidesports, yesterday in Uyo, Chief Coach of the Female Volleyball Team in the State, Ibiwari E. Konugah said she dedicated the victory to God.
According to her, commitment and determination contributed immensely to their qualification.
“I will first of all give glory to God, because without him this victory won’t have been possible.
We lost out first game due to rain, because we don’t play volleyball in the rain, so my girls were in a hurry to finish up the game before it began to rain heavily, consequently, they lost the game”, she said.
In his reactions the Chief Coach of the State Basketball Team, Fubara Onyanabo, attributed the victory to hard work and training.
Onyanabo expressed joy over the victory, saying that it is not easy to win a competition, but with hard work victory would be achieved.
